No, I'm not predicting the end of the world but year end for many companies can be just as stressful as saying the end of the world is coming (the closest thing we can relate to is wondering what would happen when we moved from 1999 to 2000).

What is the "value" of your processes, procedures and systems?
A couple of recent client interactions reminded me that their "systems" which included Excel spreadsheets, accounting software and manual processes may not have much "value" to a prospective buyer of the company.
The "value" of your systems which include software, processes and procedures depends on what a potential buyer may do with the company after acquisition.

Changes in personnel brings opportunity
Recently we have been working with a number of clients that have had personnel changes in their accounting department. Whether that was the accountant or bookkeeper in smaller companies or the controller, CFO or CPA in larger companies.

Lessons from teaching my son to ride a bike
Do you remember when you learned how to ride a bike? Do you remember when you first learned a new ERP system?
I recently taught my son to ride a bike at the age of 7 1/2. He had no interest in learning how to ride a bike since he had the pull behind on my bike then used the third wheel on my bike then rarely used his own bike with training wheels. He resisted all inquires to learn with comments like "it will be boring", "no fun", "too hard" and "why?". Sounds like many questions you may have had when facing the implementation of your ERP system.

System Selection Success Stories
I recently completed system selection engagements for two of our clients. The first was for an existing client using Sage 100 which had looked at a service industry enhancement five years ago as well as an industry specific solution that was deemed too expensive. After evaluating the options and return on investment, they chose the industry specific solution since it met all of their needs. It was designed specifically for their industry verses trying to make an add-on work for them at a lower cost.
In the second engagement, the client initially had a good grasp on the solution they were going to choose but after careful documentation of requirements and evaluation of various manufacturing specific software vendors, they found a different solution that best fit the way they do business. The process allowed them to see their real needs, the options available and while many manufacturing software options exist, only a few met their specific needs and one clearly stood out as the best fit.
